Project Management : Project 2

Objectives:

  •  To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources
  •  To evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project’s life cycle and the nature of a project’s success.
  •  To understand the means of evaluating success and failure in a project’s performance.

Learning outcomes:

  • Define project characteristics, objectives, organisations and success.
  •  Summaries strategies for the execution of the development process in response to the client’s objectives.

Studio 5 Project 2

Objectives:
1.To take into consideration key aspects of urban design and context in relation to architecture
2. To develop an awareness and basic compliance to Design Codes and Statutory Requirements
3. To emphasize the importance of elevational context and composition in developing architectural design
4. To implement and explore the conceptual, schematic and design development phases in an architectural design project.

Learning Outcomes:

1:Produce a design outcome for an urban contemporary market-place is site-specific through its formal, cultural, legislative, structural and environmental design responses
2. Apply basic knowledge of urban architectural typologies, infill design strategies and market-place programming
3. Demonstrate fundamental knowledge and awareness of design codes and regulations
4. Design within the constraints of feasibility and in response to basic design codes and statutory requirements
5. Utilise study models, diagramming, mapping, orthographic plan-section and elevational studies to explore and resolve relevant spatial, structural, functional and environmental issues in the design development phase
6. Produce drawings (both 2D and 3D), models and presentations to verbally and visually communicate architectural ideas and scheme.

Studio 5 Project 1

Site Analysis on Jalan Tun Hs Lee

Objective :

1. To have an overview of the formation of cities and introduce basic concepts of urban design in         relation to architectural design
2.  To introduce and implement basic methodologies of urban studies
3.  To investigate the role of market-places in traditional and contemporary urban societies
4.  To examine various examples and architectural responses for urban infills

Learning Outcomes:

1.  Conduct case studies and site analysis to generate an understanding of the physical and cultural    context and development of urban environments
2.  Determine and describe the role of a market-place in a contemporary urban setting
3.  Examine and establish appropriate architectural responses and strategies for designing within an    urban infill site
4.  Produce necessary documentation (diagrams, mappings, photographic images, orthographic drawings and models) to record and communicate site analysis findings, and for further use in the coming design stages

Studio 4: Project 2b: Nature Appreciation Centre

AIM

To develop awareness of environmental sustainability in architectural design.
To develop the student’s ability to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and social needs, as well as make poetry with the buildings.

OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the subject, students will be able to:

1. Apply ideas of environmental sustainability in design
2. Design and create  architectural spaces with consideration of environmental poetics in relation to the basic natural context and existing built context which impact on users’ experiences
 3. Combine the environmental needs, the site (site topography, history and socio-cultural events), and the users’ experiences within simple building design in the open landscape/suburban context.
 4. Produce drawings (both 2D and 3D), modelling and verbal presentation to communicate and visualize architectural design and ideas based on clustered spatial typology.

Studio 4: Project 2: Nature Appreciation Centre [Site Analysis]

AIM
1.To identify and analyse environmental and social needs of a site
2. To propose for Nature Appreciation Center

LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Identify site condition, topography, vegetation and socio- cultural events
2. Identify environmental features that influence architectural design
3. Identify and analyse environment and social needs of a site as basis for design proposal
