Architecture Design Studio : Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The teaching objectives of the module are:
1. To develop awareness in the mediation between socio-cultural needs, the desires of internal spaces and the demands of external constraints pertaining to the broad theme of ‘sustaining humanities’.
2. To develop students’ own position in architectural thinking and design
3. To consolidate an understanding of the holistic nature of the architectural design process, to a given degree of detail, with emphasis on design as an integrative process, drawing as appropriate on previous subjects of the program.

Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Produce a formal architectural design strategy in response to the proposed brief within a selected architectural context that display a strong architectural proposition
2. Analyze case studies to gain understanding of architectural responses and intentional design strategies to inform the design project
3. Produce design development drawings for a selected portion of design with a suitable level of complexity
4. Produce drawings (both 2D and 3D), modeling and verbal presentation to communicate and visualize architectural design and ideas.
5. Design with considerations of building performance (thermal comfort, acoustic and lighting), regulatory frameworks, and health/safety considerations.
6. Produce a design report to support the project.

Building Technology: Project 1

Building Technology 2 :The Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The teaching objectives of the module are:

1. To develop an awareness of the role of working drawings in the construction industry through the applying the principles to the on-going design project and producing the whole set of floor plans, wall section and detailing of that.
2. To develop an understanding of working/submission drawing conventions and formats through application.
3. To develop an awareness of the general nature, principles and procedures of law and legislation, particularly the Uniform Building By-laws (UBBL).
4. To develop an awareness of the importance of working in a team and distributing tasks equally among the team members through the production of full set submission drawings of the students’ design 5 studio projects.

Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Identify and apply visual communication methods (technical drawing and terminology) clearly and effectively to convey their design ideas and proposals from final architectural design project.
2. Apply the practices and procedures of working drawings development.
3. Develop an understanding of the general nature, principles and procedure of law and legislation, particularly Building By-laws; and its relationship to working drawings through producing a complete set of building submissions of architectural studio 5.
4. Develop and design architectural details for their design project.
5. Produce schedule of finishes, built up area, door and windows.
6. Develop an on-going architectural design project technically and make it build-able.
